The beginning of Alex Harris’(Edmonton, AB) journey in craft began in his early years while cooking on a wood stove with cast iron. Amazed by the cooking capabilities and longevity of cast-iron cookware, he started building his own pans out of metal and casting them in sand. Self-taught with the support of local foundries and retired makers, he uses traditional sand-casting techniques that date back to the 1900s.

Over the years Alex has perfected his moulds; his pans feature higher walls and a heavier weight than conventional cast iron pans, holding in heat better, and the insides are machined to create a flat, smooth surface. The iron used is the same material found in modern waffle makers which offers an exceptional food safe cooking surface.

The unique seal on the bottom of every pan is a nod to his wife - Trillianne Cast Iron comes from her name, Joanne, and that she is “one in a trillion”.
