This Imperial Mark II is fairly typical of the bicycles CCM produced in the 1920s – 1960s. Probably the most obvious trait shared by these bikes is the curved top tube. While this was primarily a stylistic trait (exemplified by the CCM Flyte), there was probably a practical element as well – the curve could be varied to accommodate different frame sizes and geometry, while using the same lugs. The components are another distinguishing feature of these vintage bikes. Unlike modern bicycles, which may have parts from a dozen different manufacturers, CCM produced all of their parts in house. This lead to great details, like the logo pressed into the crown of the forks (middle) and the distinctive CCM chain ring (bottom). Designed with minimal complexity and without concern for the final weight, these bikes are super durable. After decades of heavy use, many are still going strong.

Worth noting that I’m not 100% sure about the date. The serial number is E151143, which does not seem to match any of the serials from 1921 – 1960 (see the chart at the bottom of this page – <http://drumbent.com/ccm.html> ) Based on that and what little info I can find on the Imperial models, I believe that it was made after 1960. A few collectors have suggested that the CCM serial numbers started over after 1960, with an additional digit to distinguish new models. Based on that logic, this bike would date from 1965, but I haven’t been able to confirm the date and it seems a little inconsistent with this Imperial Mark IV – <http://www.flickr.com/photos/37002899@N08/3402126461/> – which is apparently dated to 1965 and has a straight top tube, etc. I’d love to know for sure. If anyone can provide a more accurate date, please let me know.

I have a 1967 CCM GT-101 Duomatic with serial number K######. I know this because my father bought it new in the spring of 1968 and the F and S Torpedo Hub was made in 1967 based on its serial number. I have the same fenders and sprocket as you.

Hi There. I found an Imperial MK I at the dump last week. I can’t find any information on it anywhere. Have you even heard of it before? A friend of ours was looking at it and said he think it might be from the 70’s. Not sure. We brought it home and gave it a complete overhaul. It’s a beauty. Rides like a charm too.

I, too, have a CCM Imperial MK II, tho it’s currently without it’s tires or original seat. I was seven years old when my father bought it for my birthday in 1963. Apparently it was one of only 1000 made for that year. As to being sturdy, Hell, yeah, it’s sturdy. Aside from a few dings in the enamel and a bit of rust it still looks as good as the day I got it, minus the pedals which have gotten worn smooth. I wish CCM was still in business so we could get tires, tubes, and accessories for it.

Probably years too late here but 28 inch 1 3/4 tires are 700C tires and readily available at both bike shops and on eBay. I have a set here in Ontario I just bought from eBay England for less than $30/each.
