The role of art, and its relationship to the general public is well established but i will not get into that here. This art installation seems to represent the most optimistic and positive areas of this debate, in no small part because of its doing, rather than just talking aspects. The designer created molds of broken sidewalks in Regina, Saskatchewan, and fills these voids with perfect little ceramic moments (featuring multiple glazes and colours). After many years of production, these are popping up around the city, bringing surprise, joy and another way to celebrate the built space around us. Both as a participant (we can make the city more interesting), and as a viewer (being on the lookout for beauty). A great project and worthy of copy cats…clay makers unite, hit the streets and begin the repairs.
