Photo: Allan Collier Collection An interesting little comparison: Both of these ashtrays were designed and likely produced by Alberta based ceramicist Ed Drahanchuk. However, the version on the left is marked DA (for Design Associates, the company that Drahanchuk cofounded with metal worker Bob Oldrich) and its crisp edges, simplified glazing and darker colour seem to project more of a ‘designer’ sensibility than it’s more crafty cousin on the right.
