www.uni-watch.com is reporting that this will be the new version of the Blue Jays logo beginning next season, although we are still probably months away from “official” confirmation.

Well…it’s at least better than the “new school” version they’ve been using the past many years. I personally still love the old one (nostalgia for the early ’90s perhaps), it seems more iconic. This rumoured new logo is more stylized which I’m not sure is necessary and the maple leaf seems to be like a little flower under its ear, rather than an extension of the baseball. But who knows…maybe this return to the old style is just a pipe dream anyway. Like a Toronto sports team making playoffs.

Glad to see the return of the classic blue jay. I think that when something gets pulled an replaced, we pine for the originals. The last versions probably lead to some sales of product but lacked a DNA. Keep me posted…with all the Jets ragging that went on, it is nice to see a classic return intact.

The baseball made the leaf make sense where it was. Now, it’s… a floating leaf. Bring back the ball!

I don’t mind the new version. It’s actually a little less stylized than the original (ie it looks more like a real blue jay). I like the stronger contrast between the blue and the navy. The leaf is a little too big, and the tiny stem looks silly. All in all, though, it’s a very pleasant design, and I look forward to it replacing the J with an angry bird. That said, the white space in the cheek and bill appears to form the shape of a hummingbird in flight.
