BRUTAL, the kerning on the CENTRE is awful and the two typefaces, do not work well together. The graphic above the word mark does not convey anything meaningful (i know that it is the architecture of the centre, but would have no clue if i was not from Toronto). Even the use of the Rogers Co. company colours is in bad taste, they are the sponsor not the whole identity package. Boy did they sell the farm on this one.
To bad, the original name was way better, and more connected to Toronto. When did city buildings become additional naming and advertising channels for brands to use. The money must be good but you sure don’t see this much outside of N. America. Can you imagine if the Roman coliseum was here, some dimwit would have sold it off and named it Air Canada Coliseum or Rogers Center.
Sad, these buildings are a major part of our shared identity and should serve the public, and the brands affiliated with the buildings, to be named after sporting heroes, or better, national heroes.
Booo!

I definitely agree that the two type choices were a poor selection. (i dont understand why the designer didn’t chose to make the words aligned and justified. The word centre and the straight edge of the “C” would match up nicely with the “R”. That’s a pretty basic typography lesson and it feels like the poor alignment was a mistake.
I do though disagree with JB on the actual graphic above the type. With the acceptation of the grey colours chosen the decision to use the buildings architectural elements (a lovely and extremely simple icon) was the correct way to go. The building is unique enough where this absolutely does represent Toronto and the Rogers Centre architecture and is therefore meaningful. The lines have that beautiful ‘suggested’ connection and mimic the architecture and structure very well.
I would be interested in who did this logo, but It does need some critical corrections and updates.

@JB,
While I’ll agree with you that the justification of the text would benefit from some re-thinking, could you please tell me where oh where exactly is the kerning on the CENTRE “awful”? Look pretty readable and justly spaced to me….

About as imaginative as the new name.

Absolute disgrace to Bank Gothic typeface!
