An amazing building that combines central parking and a playing field together and discreetly packs an enormous space into a hillside to reduce its scale. This approach centralized and resolved the sprawling parking grief that students daily dealt with, preserves the sightline to the heritage of the campus, and improved the year round field. “Continuing the relationship between landscape and design is the pixilated façade, designed in collaboration with Vancouver artist Roderick Quin. The east and south facades are clad in metal screens that have thousands of holes strategically punched into them, allowing natural light and ventilation into the interior of the parkade, while simultaneously creating a giant exterior art piece that interacts with sunlight to both depict, and blend into, the Alberta prairie sky.”
