The flowing forms and fluid shapes, remind us of the more famous Bilbao by Frank Gehry, but in fact predates his styles by decades. The church is an early work by Canadian architect Douglas Cardinal, who is best known for the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa. Built in a cookie cutter architecture filled suburb of a small prairie city, the earthy brick and natural forms provide an astonishingly graceful contrast to the bland neighbourhood. The entire structure is softly rounded, producing a sensation of the building having grown in its location, connecting the sky to the earth.
