Toronto’s Pearson Airport was under construction for years (is it still?) and now it has a renovated identity. The graphic identity and website are the first of many elements being rolled out which include new guest services, new retail outlets, and events and entertainment among others. “The logo’s multiple, vibrant colours represent the cultural diversity of Toronto and the world we provide access to. Together, the lines create a human figure that is embracing and reaching out to the world,” says Pamela Griffith-Jones, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. “For You. The World” puts our customers at the centre of it all, conveying our commitment to being the ultimate host while reminding them of our global reach.”

Does this remind anyone other than me of the chalk silhouettes that police draw around dead bodies?

I’m not so sure how I feel about this one. Too many colours in a logo are difficult to get right – the Vancouver Olympics logo is a good example of this. As it stands, I think that this one looks like a man that, having been speared from several different directions, is finally giving up the ghost and falling backwards, defeated, into the cold embrace of death.

Even if you give it every benefit of the doubt, even if you actually like the design, nothing, nothing at al about it says “Toronto”. This could be an airport or a delivery company or an internet provider or a phone company – or anything else, really – based anywhere in the world. Generic. Ugh.

Sure looks a lot like Manitoba’s Assiniboine Credit Union logo. <http://www.assiniboine.mb.ca/>

I thought “chalk outline” immediately. Maybe it represents a passenger getting molested by airport security?

Russell – that’s a stretch…
